Marta Betancourt 's Statement.

 

Marta is a Colombian artist graduated in Fine Art and based in London who combines her works inspired by abstraction and figurative. Marta experiment on different surfaces such as  wood, paper, canvas and found objects, using pallets, brushes, oil crayons, acrylics and mixed media. 

​

Based on her researches and personal experiences, Marta explore  in subjects related with the unconscious and spirituality from both scientific and cultural angles as also socio-political aspects of her Afro Latin-American roots and the African diaspora.

 

Symbolic elements, figures, letters, numbers, that  represent a powerful spiritual meaning are often develops by her work through meditation in an intuitive way, expressing in her paintings the process of physical and mental healing she experiences in her life. Marta seeks to connect the viewer with their own unconscious through shapes, textures, colors and symbolism.

 

She has been influenced by different modern and contemporary Artist from different continents, Latino American artists such as Wilfredo Lam or Oswaldo Wayasamin, American artist such as Mark Rothko, Hilma Klimt, Jackson Pollock, Kara Walker and and European Artist such as Pablo Picasso or Jade Fadojutimi, artists as part of her research to find   her own path in art.
